Leiden University receives a 'Diamond' for its successful diversity policy
Every year a number of organisations that signed the Talent to the Top charter are awarded a 'Diamond' for their successful diversity policy. On 8 June Carel Stolker, Rector Magnificus and President of the Executive Board, will receive this award on behalf of Leiden University for its university policy to direct female scientists to top positions.

More than a hundred people took part in the conference on Studying with a Disability on 20 April. Dozens of students shared their experiences. 'I would rather you ask me the same question a hundred times than that you decide on my behalf.'

Taskforce The Future is Diversity presents results

In 2016 Erasmus University Rotterdam, Leiden University and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam worked together in the Taskforce The Future is Diversity to improve the study success of bicultural students. An expert meeting on inclusive higher education will be held on 16 June at which the Taskforce will present the results of this cooperation to Hester Bijl, Vice-Rector of Leiden University. If you are interested in attending this expert meeting, you are welcome to join us.

Interested in joining the LGBT core team?

The Diversity Office of Leiden University is looking for members who want to join an LGBT core team which will be installed this year. Enthusiastic staff and students are very welcome to come to a brainstorm session in September. Where cultures meet

On Saturday 13 May, the 11th edition of the International Cultural Festival took place. This festival brings together international students, Dutch students and inhabitants of Leiden for a trip around the world in one day.

Women on the agenda in Leiden

Women are are on the agenda again at Leiden University. That was clear on 8 March in the Academy Building. First there was an informal get-together with women professors and talented researchers, followed by the 27th Annie Romein-Verschoor lecture, on happy and angry women.

Back to Morocco

Hayat Essakkati grew up in the Netherlands and studied Public Administration in Leiden. She started her own company in Morocco, the country where her parents were born. 'Moroccan culture and religion are not as conservative as people in the Netherlands often think.'

New faculty plans for diversity

The Faculties of Archaeology, Humanities, Governance and Global Affairs, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Law and Science are working on new policy for the next period 2017-2018. The faculty plans, which are almost complete, build on the policy of the past three years. The plans will be confirmed shortly. We will keep you informed of progress.
