Judi Mesman is a senior researcher at the Centre for Child and Family Studies & Data Theory. Since her PhD study on preschool pathways of psychopathology her research has focused on early childhood psychopathology. More specifically, she is interested in the role of parent-child interactions in early childhood in the development of externalizing problems, for example aggressive behaviour. The two theoretical frameworks that guide her research in this area are attachment theory (John Bowlby) and coercion theory (Gerald Patterson). Within the broader theme of early childhood externalizing problems, her research interests include early intervention, the assessment of early childhood problem behaviour, and cross-cultural research.
