Offial language of instruction
I. Dutch
Leiden University offers more than eighty bachelor's programmes. Most bachelor's programmes are (predominantly) taught in Dutch. Various language and culture studies are also taught in the foreign language that is studied.
Language requirements: for all studies a good command of Dutch and for many studies also of English, is a requirement. Additional language requirements may apply.
The BA in Dutch Studies is the only bachelor's programme taught in Leiden that does not require any knowledge of the Dutch Language at the start of the programme.You will learn Dutch during the programme.

II. English : bachelor's taught in English by the Leiden University College The Hague
Leiden University College The Hague offers you a bachelor’s (honours) degree programme in Liberal Arts & Sciences, taught in English in an international environment. LUC The Hague distinguishes itself from other programmes and colleges by focusing specifically on complex, global issues: climate change, depletion of natural resources, poverty, social injustice, international crime and terrorism, to name but a few.
LUC The Hague has taken the two broad domains Peace & Justice and Sustainability as unique, profiling elements in the curriculum. Interdisciplinarity is central to all learning at LUC The Hague.
Programme duration
A bachelor's programme takes three years to complete.
Electives and Minors
From September 2009, 2nd or 3rd-year Leiden bachelor’s students can complete the electives for their particular programme, which may vary from 30 to 15 study points depending on the department, with a minor, electives (local, national, international) or an internship in the Netherlands or abroad. This allows you to add specific elements of your choice to your programme or to broaden your programme.
