Introduction to Leiden University
To make your start at Leiden as smooth as possible, we are offering an extensive induction period consisting of 3 different introduction. You are welcome to join any or all of them. Please register seperately for each part.

1. EL CID week – 16 - 20 August

The El CID week is the official orientation week for all new students of Leiden University. Primarily Dutch first year students will be introduced to University life in all its facets. |
2. Acculturation weeks – 23 August - 1 September
This programme has room for 50-125 students and offers an in depth introduction to Dutch academic life.
It's the best possible preparation to Leiden student life we have to offer.
Cost: 200 euro
Class Schedule (Day Programme)*
The classes are scheduled every day except in the weekend, most likely between 10 and 17 hrs.
- Language training in Dutch level 1A
- Study skills for a Dutch educational environment (special focus on the Dutch educational system, discussion workgroups, presentation skills and giving feedback, grades, hierarchy in the classroom, academic writing)
- Cultural Awareness training focused on international classroom situations
- Dutch history and culture classes
- Social activities to get acquainted with fellow students and (student) life in Leiden
Social Activities (Evening Programme)*
The social activities will take place mostly in the evening, except for the boat ride and high tea. Last years social activities included: 2 dinners, movie night, drinks, BBQ, game night / student society visit, boat ride through Leiden/ picknick, rowing, workshops (dance, calligraphy), a High Tea and a closing Certificate Ceremony.

Registration and payment
There are limited places available for the Acculturation Weeks. Registration has closed - The programme is full, however you could go to your faculty programme!

After we have received your registration, we will send you confirmation. In a later stage we will also send you an email with a link to our online payment programme. We will do this after we have registered the minimum of 50 participants. You will receive your personal schedule through email approx. 3 weeks prior to the start of the programme.
3. Introduction Days – 2 - 3 September
In this 2-day programme, Leiden students will act as mentors and they will guide you through Leiden. You will receive a short general introduction to the university, your own faculty, student facilities and the city of Leiden. During these 2 days with varied social activities you will meet many other international students.
