Cleveringa professor American
historian Timothy Snyder has been appointed Leiden University
Cleveringa Professor for 2012-2013. Snyder is primarily known
for his book 'Bloodlands. Europe between Hitler and Stalin'.
On 26 November he will deliver the Cleveringa

Leiden top Dutch university
in THE World Ranking Leiden
University is the top Dutch university according to the Times
Higher Education Ranking. This year Leiden climbed from
79th to 64th position, overtaking Utrecht. The THE World
University Rankings presents the top 200 universities
worldwide based on a number of indicators from which an

handicap for life The
conference on ‘Abuse & Neglect across the Life Span’ will
address both neurobiological and socio-psychological aspects
of neglect and abuse. Professors Bernet Elzinga and
Lenneke Alink are the organisers of the conference to be held

led by Leiden physicist Prof. Martin van Hecke have discoverd
that granular materials such as toothpaste, sand, shaving foam
and mayonnaise do not always stiffen if they are tightly
packed. Even if these materials resist compression, they often
