  Carel Stolker to succeed Paul van der Heijden as Rector Magnificus and President of Leiden University
Professor C.J.J.M. Stolker is to be the new Rector Magnificus and President of the Executive Board of Leiden University. He will assume responsibility with effect from 8 February 2013 during the University’s 438th Dies Natalis celebrations.

An international team of students and scholars, including those from Leiden University, have uncovered a unique combination of synagogue features from the Byzantine period during excavations on Horvat Kur in the Lower Galilee region.

  Leiden researchers elucidate protein structure at highest resolution ever
Never before has the crystal structure of a human protein molecule in a cell wall been so crystal clear. Leiden researchers Ad IJzerman and Laura Heitman in collaboration with their American colleagues created  the most detailed crystal structure of a target protein ever made for medicinal purposes. The researchers published their results in Science.

  Two major NWO subsidies for language research in Leiden
Professor Johan Rooryck will be examining cognition and core knowledge systems and how possession is expressed in different languages. Rooryck and fellow researchers have been awarded two NWO grants totalling 2.75 million euro to carry out two research programmes: 'Knowledge and Culture' and 'Lend me your ears'.
