Manifesto for a Critical Museology
Over the past 30 years, while museums and galleries have undergone unprecedented change, becoming more individualistic in their foci and programing, museology has progressively sought to become more universal and prescriptive. This lecture will focus on defining a new and critical conception of museology and examine the implications of a number of recent interdisciplinary exhibitions that mix art and anthropology in Canada and Europe. The significance and political implications of these new hybrid exhibition genres will be discussed both for museology and the future trajectories of museums and galleries.
